If you are planning your next family vacation, day trip or weekend getaway, look no further than the Finger Lakes region of New York. Beautiful scenery, high quality wines, outdoor activities and more are what is waiting for your exploration in this region of New York. You will be glad you visited the Finger Lakes.
The Finger Lakes are known for their wine, particularly for the world renowned Rieslings crafted in this region of New York. That being said, the Finger Lakes region has much more to offer than just wine. The area is filled with lots of Waterfalls, State Parks, and glimmering lakes to explore.
Two must sees: Watkins Glen State Park whith 19 waterfalls within the gorge itself and Sampson State Park and Military Museum. Both are on the shores of Seneca Lake. Seneca Lake has depths of 630 feet, with 75 miles of shoreline, four miles of which are accessible. Camping, Boating and Fishing are also available in the park.
There is also excellent shopping in the Finger Lakes region. Waterloo Premium Outlets offer discounts on over 100 of the leading brand names. The area also has a large Amish community. You'll find plenty of Amish inspired Furniture, Baked goods and produce stands as well as one of our favorite places to visit, The Windmill Farm and Craft Market. It has 25 outdoor vendors and 200 shops that range from household items, to baked goods, to apparel. Its open every Sat. 8 am-4:30 pm in Penn Yan, NY.
The area also boasts a number of breweries and several hard-cider producers. The Finger Lakes are quickly becoming a hot-spot for farm based beverages.
We like to go to the wineries that also brew beer when we travel with people who have never been to the area. When we are alone we'll revisit some of our favorite go to spots and add a new winery every time we visit. Use these links Finger Lakes beer trail and Wine Trail for Maps to follow along or choose your own path.
Two of our favorite must stops we visit that brew both beer and wine are:
Wagner Valley Vineyard/Wagner Valley Brewing CO.: Offering wine, beer and a restaurant. Definitely a place to visit. The semi dry Riesling was our favorite wine(goes great with a cheese platter) and they have grape juice and root beer for kids. As for the beer. Dockside Amber Lager and Sled Dog are our choice.
Three Brothers Wineries and Estates/Warhorse Brewing CO.: There are 3 different wineries and 1 brewery on the property. Plan on spending extra time here. Lots of tasting and enjoyable grounds.
